„Go and preach the Gospel” is the title of contemporary icons’ exhibition, which settled in the basement of the Jesuit Shrine of Our Lady of Grace in Warsaw on 15-23 October 2016.The project was implemented by artists who with their iconographic painting have joined the celebration of the Jubilee of 1050th anniversary of Polish Christianity. The exhibition presented more than 80 icons created in „The Way of the Icon” artistic workshop in Warsaw and in the Creative Activities Atelier in Poznan.
The icons presented at the exhibition are the result of several years of work of artists who wanted to share their faith and pass it to others through the Word of God written on wooden boards. They refered to the old tradition of icons, preserved and perfected in the Eastern Churches, maintained in the canon of iconographic and based on ancient techniques – yolk tempera and gilding.
Presented icons show: the holy face of Christ, the Virgin and the saints and well-known events from the Old and the New Testaments. Icons lit by gold attract our attention, revealing the hidden in symbols truth about God who became man for our salvation.
